What’s the difference between behind-the-ear and off-the-ear sound processors?
Behind-the-ear sound processors, such as the Cochlear™ Nucleus® 8 Sound Processor, sit behind an individual's ear, with an earhook to keep them in place. A cable and circular coil connect to the sound processor and the coil is held on the head by a magnet.
Off-the-ear sound processors, such as the Cochlear Nucleus Kanso® 2 Sound Processor, sit on the side of the head. The Nucleus Kanso 2 Sound Processor is an all-in-one device that contains a processing unit, microphones, magnet and battery.

± The typical expected battery life is calculated using default map settings used with a CI600 Series or CI500 Series implant. Battery life varies for every user, according to the age of the battery, the programs used each day, your implant type, the thickness of skin covering your implant, and the size and type of battery used. Streaming from compatible devices, True Wireless devices or FM may decrease sound processor battery life depending on how often and for how long streaming is engaged.
** When using zinc air batteries.
¥ When the technology becomes available for the Cochlear Nucleus 8 Sound Processor, a firmware update to your sound processor will allow you to connect to Bluetooth LE Audio compatible devices.
Auracast™ broadcast audio capability is subject to third party adoption of the Auracast protocol.
