COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES NOTICE

This notice (“Notice”) explains how Cochlear Ltd and/or any of its affiliated companies (“Cochlear”, or “we”), use cookies and other technologies. It explains what these technologies are as well as how you may control our use of them, and also complements the Cochlear Global Privacy Notice.

COOKIES

Cookies are small pieces of text used to store information on web browsers. Cookies are used to store and receive identifiers and other information on computers, phones and other devices. Other technologies, including data that we store on your web browser or device, identifiers associated with your device and other software, are used for similar purposes. In this Notice, we refer to all of these technologies as “cookies”. Some of the cookies used by our websites are set by us, and some are set by third parties on our behalf, for the purposes described in this Notice.

We use five types of cookies:

  • Strictly necessary cookies:
These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off. They enable you to navigate around the site and use our features.
  • Performance cookies:
These cookies allow us to count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our site. They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the site.
  • Functional cookies:
These cookies enable the website to provide enhanced functionality and personalisation, for example, personalisation based on your browser, device, country and language. They may be set by us or by third party providers whose services we have added to our pages.
  • Targeting cookies:
These cookies are set on our website by our advertising partners (e.g., Facebook or advertisers). They may use the data collected from these cookies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites. These cookies track your online activity by uniquely identifying your browser and internet device. These cookies also help us to gather information about the website you came from and other sites you have visited to provide you with more relevant content and advertisements.
  • Social media cookies:
These cookies are set by social media services that we have added to our website to enable you to share our content with your friends and networks. They can track your browser across other sites and build up a profile of your interests. This may impact the content and messages you see on other websites you visit.

We use Google Analytics to collect information and report site usage statistics of our websites and apps, and Google AdSense and Google DoubleClick for managing and placing advertisements (together “Google Services”). Google may use cookies for a number of purposes, such as to stop you from seeing a repetitive ad or to show ads that are likely to be more relevant to you. To learn more about Google Services or prevent Google from collecting information about your visit to our websites or to control your advertising experience across Google Services visit: https://policies.google.com/privacy#intro

Cookie Controls

You may change your browser settings to provide a warning before accepting cookies, or to refuse them. However, blocking some types of cookies may impact your experience of our websites and the services we are able to offer. You can learn more about cookies and similar technologies at http://allaboutcookies.org. You can opt-out of interest-based advertising via industry-operated websites by visiting http://www.networkadvertising.org/choices, http://www.aboutads.info/choices and http://www.youronlinechoices.com (for European residents).

Please visit your mobile device manufacturer’s website or operating system for instructions relating to any other additional privacy controls, for example geolocation and device identifiers.

Where required in certain countries, by default Cochlear websites set only strictly necessary cookies. If you visit these websites, you will be presented with a cookie notice through which you can accept or decline non-essential cookies, such as those used for analytics and personalisation and manage your cookies preferences. Your choices will persist only on those websites and not on websites directed to individuals residing outside of those certain countries.

Duration of cookies

Cookies track your activity by uniquely assigning an identifier to the browser that is being used to access a particular website. As a result, you may have multiple cookies downloaded on their device, e.g. one for the each of the different internet browsers that you have used to access Cochlear's website. Depending on the functionality of the cookie, each will persist on the internet browser for a variable amount of time before it is deleted. For example, session-only cookies are deleted when you close the browser, whereas persistent cookies remain on your device for the period of time defined by the system or tool setting the cookie, after which they delete themselves. Cookies may be renewed every time you visit the website. You can delete the cookies and any other information saved on device by clearing browser's cookie and cache storage available in browser settings.

OTHER SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES
